Finally the snow has fallen abundantly and the lifts are all open, so it would be good to clarify how to recognize the level of difficulty of the slopes to avoid finding ourselves on slopes that we are not yet able to face.
The first thing to note is that on board each slope there are stakes of various colors that show the number of the respective slope, the name and the degree of difficulty. On the ski maps of the ski area, each slope is depicted with a color that represents the degree of difficulty of the slope.
There are four colors that we can find. Let’s see them together one by one:
- GREEN SLOPES: suitable for those who start with snowboarding, they have an average gradient of less than 5%. They tend to be school camps.
- BLUE SLOPES: these are easy slopes, for beginners or for those who enjoy spending the day doing flat-tricks. They are almost always longer than the green ones and the average slope ranges from 6% to 25%.
- RED SLOPES: these are slopes intended for snowboarders with good board control skills and who know how to deal with all the various differences in height and difficulty present. The average gradient ranges from 26% to 40%.
- BLACK SLOPES: these are slopes intended for very experienced snowboarders with excellent snowboarding control and conduction skills. They have an average gradient of more than 40% and are often marked by signs that read: “only for expert skiers”.
We also remind you that an average gradient of 25% does not correspond to a slope with an inclination of 25 degrees, but it means that the maximum inclination of 100% translates into a slope of 45 degrees.
Always remember that another aspect to take into account is the condition of the snow. A blue slope with 5cm of fresh snow is very different from a completely icy blue slope (extremely more difficult), so it is a good idea to always check the bulletin at the lift ticket office.
Now you are ready to launch yourself from the peaks!! However, always paying attention to your level and if you want to increase it, we are waiting for you at our SnowHouse in Passo del Tonale where you can rent quality equipment or book a lesson.
For more advice contact us or you could participate in our snowboard camps or lessons.
