We will not dwell on its usefulness.
We as teachers have always worn it to protect ourselves and to set a good example.
Instead, we believe it is more useful to give you advice, informationand some curiosities.
A few tips
The first is that it would be better to wear it without putting caps or other accessories under it that do not allow the helmet to be adherent to the garment correctly.
There are suitable under helmets to be “stylish” but also safe!
Same for the mask, if equipped with a special regulator to tighten the elastic, this constitutes a danger if placed between the head and the helmet.
Again, if you want to follow your style, there are special masks that you can use with the elastic under the helmet.
Some information
From 1 January 2022 it is mandatory for under-18s to wear a helmet.
The helmet must bear the inscription UNI EN 1077 and the indication of one year.
In the event of a violent impact, the helmet must be replaced. The vast majority of helmets on the market are category B and are approved for a single impact; after a violent impact, their absorption capacity is reduced until it halves.
And finally, some curiosities
According to the Ministry of Health, about 35 thousand accidents are found on the ski slopes every year, out of a total of about 3 million presences. Most (84.6%) are bruises, sprains, hematomas and fractures. But about 3300 accidents involve the head.
The UNI EN 1077 standard does not limit itself to establishing the structural requirements of the helmet, but also indicates the correct way to fit the helmet: always adjust it so that it fits without moving or rocking, preferably using the micrometric adjuster. Avoid pushing it backwards towards the back of the neck, a really dangerous position in case of falls on the back (the helmet could crush the area of the beginning of the spine).
