How to dress for snowboarding?

The ideal clothing for snowboarding is subjective, there are people who are more or less cold!

Other times it depends on whether it’s your first time snowboarding or you’re already an experienced rider!

Let’s start from the bottom with socks. It is very important to choose them of quality and attention: do not exaggerate with the thickness! The “chunky” sock is not always synonymous with “warmth”. In addition, snowboard boots, compared to ski boots, are more comfortable and generally warmer.

We wrote an article on the blog 6punto9 on this topic.

The important thing for other snowboard garments is: “onion clothing”!

If we use several layers, it will be easier to adjust by removing some garments or adding them, to find the ideal comfort!

As for the materials, you are spoiled for choice.

We can simply use garments that we already have such as underwear (T-shirt or tank top), a common T-shirt, sweatshirt and a jacket and pants. The latter should be at least waterproof and not too slim (tight or tight). Clearly we can use this outfit if we want to try snowboarding sometimes and we stay on the snow little (a few hours) and occasionally.

The first few times you can also safely use ski clothing.

Then if we already know that snowboarding will be our sport or has been for years, we can invest a few more euros and buy more technical and specific garments for snowboarding.

Let’s move on to the jacket and pants, which are essential that they are waterproof and protect us from the wind.

In this regard, it is essential that they have ventilation ducts to regulate sweating, they are usually located under the armpits and on the inner thighs.

Let’s always remember a buff that protects our face from snow wind! The 6punto9 buff for many riders is a must-have!

Gloves or mittens are also very important: we have written an article about it on our blog.

Let’s always remember that a lip stick and sunscreen are also essential for the protection of our face!

There are various qualities and materials for snowboard clothing!

Here are some common fabrics used:

1. GORE-TEX: A waterproof and breathable fabric that is widely used for snowboard jackets and pants. It protects against water and keeps the body dry. Plus: it repels water from the outside and at the same time allows the water vapor produced by the body to escape.

2. Nylon: Lightweight, abrasion-resistant material that is often used to reinforce areas of friction, such as the knees and butt. Plus: light and resistant!

3. Polyester: Versatile and water-resistant, polyester is often used to create insulating and breathable layers. Plus: dries quickly and resists atmospheric agents.

4. Softshell: A stretchy, wind-resistant, and water-repellent fabric that provides good freedom of movement. Plus: freedom and protection!

5. Hardshell: Extremely water and wind resistant fabric, suitable for snowboard jackets and pants. Plus: to be put to the test!

6. Thinsulate: Lightweight yet warm insulating material, often used inside snow clothes to maintain body heat. Plus: thin and light!

7. PrimaLoft: Another lightweight insulator that provides warmth even when wet. Plus: ease of cleaning!

Choosing the right fabric depends on the conditions and how long you plan to snowboard and your personal preferences for comfort, durability and style!

And remember that at our SnowboardHouse in Passo del Tonale you can not only rent snowboard equipment but also clothing. Technical snowboard jackets and pants for rent are waiting for you!

And also snowboard instructors who can give you advice and teach you how to snowboard or improve!
